    overuse of the quote feature

Folks, just as a minor bugaboo, could I ask our quote-happy CMFers to please reconsider their use of the quote feature? A forum represents a linear conversation and lately I've noticed even the shortest threads are seeing every message being posted in duplicate. That is, the OP posts a comment and then the respondent copies that same comment below by way of the quote feature. Some posters do this more than others and it results in constant scrolling and excess # of pages when reading a thread. One thread I read had like 4 short posts and every response had the post above quoted. That resulted in twice as much text than was necessary in the thread. And it's equally annoying for big long posts and short ones. It's not necessary to use the quote feature every time. Please use it judiciously and post the majority of your replies and discussion in the quick reply box. Thank you.

The other thing is to edit down the quote to only the item you are responding to if it is not obvious...and in quick reply, do not check the box to include the original.

    What box? Lol.

Back to the thread - I agree with Royal that overuse of quotes isn't a good thing.

The problem is that if people don't use them enough - it leads to misunderstandings, because someone might be replying to a previous post, but nobody knows which post unless they quote.

Alright - just learned how to do quick reply - so proud.
And here I was just thinking how if I wanted to be a better CFM member I should learn how to do the quotes! - now it's not "cool" anymore, dang it, and I never even got to try it.

Hey there are no emoticons in this option ......... guess I'll have to use : )

Bugaboo when googled brings up: strollers and the definition - legendary scary monster. Not sure which fits best into the sentence above.

I think that's what Brits might call 'taking the piss'.

    Haha.

This actually made me laugh out loud.

    Hilarious.

And TRM, sorry I used the quote feature.
