Davis, not sure if you were around during the times when one moderator ran the forum in the way you'd probably prefer. If you were, you know he drove away scores of long time users when he deamed threads such as "travel tips" off topic (even though many of the tips saved money). People come to this board because they've come to know the users, developed "friendships" as it were.
There are other boards that deal with financial topics, but they are visited far more infrequently as the topics are limited. Believe it or not, people do think of things other than money, and enjoy talking about them. To split that up over a number of different boards would be to split up the participants as well.
Imagine, discussing raising children on a different forum, probably not as interesting to people here...until you get onto the topic of teaching children about financial literacy...only those experts aren't on that forum...
It's the same as those who complain when a thread goes "off topic", instead of seeing where the "natural evolution" of the discussion is going. I've often learned amazing things on threads that have gone off topic.
Sure, sometimes things go off the rails, but other times they don't. People need to relax a bit and quit trying to regulate everything maybe they'll see some good come out of it for a change. Other ways of thinking aren't bad just because they are different from your own. In some ways, you're complaining about your own actions.
