FREECYCLE: Get anything for free!

I'm a member of Freecycle-Toronto. I got a free kitchen table set and a couch, a saving of about $400. I'm looking for a guitar.

Second the value of Freecycle. My wife uses it quite a bit. It makes me happiest when she uses it to dispose of unnecessary things that "clutter up" the house.

I haven't used this site. But sometimes it does feel better to find something a new home vs throwing it out.

We tend to craigslist our stuff and get money for stuff we would otherwise throw out, but thanks for the link!

I love craigslist. I bought my couches there instead of IKEA. I knew i wanted the ones with removable washable covers because I have a two year old and two dogs. I saved $1200 bucks. The next day the dog got sick on it too. Was I ever glad i did not buy it brand new

Plus I get to remove the covers and wash them whenever I want which is fantastic savings i could also buy brand new covers if I wanted to in a different color

I can't believe the stuff folks will buy off of craigslist or kijiji. We sold a mattress there once, somebody paid me like $100. Granted the mattress was good quality and only about a year old - and we're clean folks. But still, not the type of thing I'd be buying used. I scoffed at the idea - and yet it sold right away. My wife recently sold a 'it's not a blanket, it's a duvet cover' thing she didn't want anymore on kijiji too.

Conversely, I've picked up some good deals on those sites too. I collect antique books, some guy was unloading entire cases of some old, valueless legal books from the 1800's. I drove a few hours and paid him $40 for them, he'd have likely landfilled them otherwise.

Agree. I had the same experience -- some items sold for prices that I would not personally pay for used. I sold things like ink-jet printers, computer desks etc. Still, I'm surprised someone purchased a mattress.
