Question Moving from Ontario to Quebec

    Good evening,

I've read a few threads about this situation on here but they were not really answering my questions. So here it goes:

I've worked in Ontario for the past 9 1/2 months and I've just recently started a job in Montreal, QC. I know that you pay taxes on where you will be living on December 31st. There's one thing.. I will be keeping my apartment in Ontario until December 31 (because I need to give 60 days notice when I move out).

So, here is my question. Since Ontario will remain my main place of residence and I will be working here during the week. Will I still be able to fill my taxes in Ontario? I still have my licence, health card, bank information listed there.

    Please help. I'm really confused(d).

    ^^^^^

I'm not sure I have this right - you've started a job in Montreal, QC with your place of residence in Ontario and you are also working in Ontario, correct?

If so - it sounds similar to the people who own a house/mortgage/bank account in Gatineau, QC but work in Ottawa for an Ottawa company. In their case - they pay Quebec taxes. Some Ontario companies don't deduct enough taxes from their pay cheque so that when their tax return is filed, they are writing a cheque to the Quebec gov't every year.

Note also that the tax return is sent to wherever CRA directs it. Going back to those working in Ottawa, ON and Gatineau, QC - I believe it is the Shawinigan, QC tax office that processes all of these returns, regardless of province.

    Cheers

    Maybe your question isn't complete?

If one knows the provincial taxes are based on province of residence on Dec 31st - the Ontario/Quebec taxes question is answered.

    Cheers

Yes. (I've moved around most provinces and had T4 from multiple provinces in a year) All that matters is your primary place of residence. If you bought a house in Quebec already though I would just ensure not to jeopardize the tax savings of a primary residence. The SAAQ is the last place you want to try to pull a fast one.
