Thanks money gal, that made me smile. If the OP comes back (which I'm betting they won't) and offers some details I'll retract my statement.

    No mockery intended.

You thought they were referring to a LIRA, I didn't pick up on that. Perfect example. A little more info would be helpful.

You haven't mentioned much about your personal situation. As mentioned, things such as pension plans make a difference. As well searching for the greatest return and the safest return are conflicting priorities. However, something 50% equities and 50% fixed income would suit some people looking for a balance between growth and safety. Since you deal with TD, you may want to explore investing in "e" funds, which have very low management fees.

Sure it's always better to offer useful advice but we are getting a lot of one post wonders asking broad, open ended questions prior to any apparent thinking or research on their part. Hard to take these seriously or spend the time to offer a thoughtful response. Maybe the moderators could automatically post a response mentioning reading, research, more info, etc. maybe a sticky.

Yeah a "Before You Post" sticky is a good idea, at least for the Investing section.

I agree with you Square Root [about the one post wonders], but I don't think you can put that in the forum rules; it is, after all, a public forum, not a classroom.

There are some members here who only ask questions and never give any answers nor contribute in any meaningful way; wouldn't the same answer apply to them, ie: read and research on your own first? Which btw, is the advice I gave the OP.

Your response was fine T gal, I was just defending some who might be getting a little frustrated or impatient with the low quality of some initial posts. It is great that several knowledgeable posters (yourself included) take the time to respond thoughtfully to these type of posts. "You are a better man than I, Dunga Din"
