    I use TDW and agree with HP's suggestions. All of the children's TFSAs, RRSPs, in trust accounts are linked with ours (including two small LIRAs) and there are no charges on any of them. And I don't have to call annually on them. I do have to call semi-annually to get service charges on chequing account waived as it is often below the no charge threshold. Also have to call to get annual VISA fee waived. Maybe just a matter of finding the right person to talk to, often the biggest challenge. Good luck.

    For a small investor in a non-registered account like a TFSA, it's hard to beat Questrade.

    If he's in a low tax bracket, he might want to consider keeping his trading money in a non-registered account and going with IB - nobody is cheaper than them.
