Mutual fund and ETF ranking
Are there any good web sites for ranking mutual funds and ETFs? My idea was to simplify the problem of picking the right ones by ranking them then looking at the ten best.
Try either the Globe & Mail Fund Filter
other folks on the site use yahoo.finance etc - but I use these.
here's a good site in morningstar for etf rankings http://www2.morningstar.ca/tools/scr...&culture=en-CA

Sadly most of the rankings ignore MERs so not useful to gauge the returns you actually make.
All the services mentioned are good but each is incomplete in some way. The source I use is Bloomberg, the paid version.
However, one question before you start: How will you choose the best ones? Past returns? Fees? Underlying asset? And you will do that for thousands of funds?
Is this really the best way to construct a quality portfolio that meets your needs?
If you have defined your needs and those needs have guided your portfolio construction, then it is a much simpler and easier process to find ETFs/MFs that match.
Once you have a shortlist of funds, then the individual websites have all the info you will require.
I hope that helps and apologies if it is all old news.
In morningstar.ca, the fund filter lets you select funds by using the MER as a filter - that is - you can determine the best performing funds with low mer's
