    Question regarding partnership losses

    Hi,

I'm trying to figure out how I can write off a limited partnership loss without a T5013.

Unfortunately, I was one of the naive investors in the now defunct Concrete Equities and although I received a T5013 slip during my first year with them, they've never issued another one since. Most likely because they went into receivership.

The fund I invested in is worth nothing but I'm wondering how/if I can write that off.

Sorry to hear you were swindled...

Generally, you'd have a capital loss to report of your remaining adjusted cost base. (what you paid, plus what you were allocated in income (or deduct what you were allocated in losses/writeoffs) less any cash you received). You'd report it on Sched 3, and, unfortunately, it's only deductible against capital gains -- though you can carry it forward forever. There's no T5013 issued for this.

I did a quick google on Concrete Equities and it seems it might not be dead yet. So I'm not sure of the timing on when you get to deduct. It looks like a royal mess. Often there's a receiver or an investor group keeping tabs on what's up or what to do. I'm no help there, I'm afraid. Good luck to you.
