My Aunt and Uncle took a post in NWT for 1 years to boost their savings so they could retire early.I am sure they got some cost for returning home for the xmas break and other stuff.This may be an option to live elsewhere to make better wages and allow you to keep your home if you are determined to keep roots in NB.Is renting the house out an option while you 'move away'?
Just wanted to share that we moved to AB from NB in 2006. It was the best thing we could do for ourselves financially. When my husband finished college in 2005 in Saint John, he was offered a job in his field in Fredericton... it was $12. When we moved to AB, he immediately found a job for $22 and now, five years later, he's making over $40 in the same type of role. This would not have been possible in NB.
We made some bad choices when we arrived so we still are working to pay down our debt (By the end of year we'll be there), but we would have sunk had we tried to raise our children in NB.
As for the rent... we live in Red Deer and there are nice places to rent for $1500 with most things included. As a professional, you will easily find work out here. Alberta needs workers.

When it comes to money full responsibility must be taken for your actions. When you post "trusting the wrong people" does it make you wonder if your taking full responsibility for your actions or blaming others.
Its is hard to become financialy independent if one does not take responsibility for thier actions.
You also mention you have a trading account & in another post you mentioned you like to trade. If your putting money @ risk in your financial situation you should maybe consider never trading again because you could be a gambler.

I think you ask the right question and you are right: 'Standing in ones truth is important when it come to money'.
The thing is: I do feel incredible stupid that I trusted the wrong people and I didn't want to go into details on a forum. You hear the warnings every where: make sure that you check out the people that work for you. In my case it was a friend that I had known for quite a while. As an immigrant he was looking for work and I helped him with that, he was very grateful and I liked him a lot. I wanted to give him a chance. He had arrived here in Canada about a year ago and I thought I could trust him. He did the odd job for me, renovations on the house, plumbing and that sort of stuff and that was all fine.
Where there signs?
Yes there were. But I didn't pick up on it, the classical story: "He's not doing something like that" that's what I thought, "I can trust him". But I was wrong. I trusted him with a large chunk of money and that was the last that I heard of him. It is my responsibility and I feel like a complete idiot, being scammed out of the money that I worked for for so long. I did my story with the police but never heard back.
I lost my job shortly after, the center where I worked ended the contract because of lack of funds. This is unrelated but still very inconvenient after finding out a 'friend' took all your money, and while searching for a job -which is pretty hard here- we had a family and a house so we had to take money from the funds that we had.
So this is where I'm at: trying to get back on track, and you know I still have a house and a family which makes up for a lot. And the future is something I'm working on, I'm trying to earn some money now with a call center job and I'm trying out some other ideas, most of it is trial and error.
I had a trading account with Questrade before my financial mishaps started to happen. I had put some money in it and did the occasional trade and was successful with it but I left it unless I was absolutely sure that I would make some money.
I talked to the administrator about starting a thread like this hoping others would share their stories as well and maybe get some advice on the possibilities. I realize I made a huge mistake and was somewhat hoping that others could learn from possible stories in this thread. I'm over my mistake now, I have to move on but when I was in that zone where you pull your hair out, I felt any feedback would help. And it did.

I was talking to a friend of mine today & they are looking for workers in a mine 28 days on 14 off aprox 500 a day. Accomadation & food paid for not sure about travel. They will pay for training because he said most of there workers left for another mine that paid higher & they are really short. I am kinda thinking of going but not sure if its worth it because Iam happy with my life & Iam living off half of my interest from GICs & compounding the rest & in 7 years get a pension.
The only problem is Iam not sure how accurate the numbers are this guy gave me because he kinda exagerates sometimes.
