Muscians, especially guitar players still prefer amplifiers with vacumn tubes over transistors..they have a sweeter sound with a different
harmonic range over transistors and some guitar players will pay a hundred dollars or more for vintage tubes made in the 60s.
In that spirit, I'll say the greatest invention is the humbucking pickup!

But I've always thought the greatest invention was the lightbulb... and not only because it gave all subsequent inventors something to visualize at the "A-ha!" moment!
