The new smileys are cool.
I guess I can see why there's a limit to four. I could see us doing whole converations in cryptographs otherwise.

i keep waiting for someone else to address this issue, but so far no one has. So i'll try. Advienne que pourra.
it's about the Recently Popular Threads in the right hand column. Underneath the square box ad. The entries don't offer any link to the most recent post, which is the raison d'être of the column, no.
instead the links are to the first post in what is often a very long thread (useless because dated); to the home page of the most recent poster (useless because irrelevant here); plus a link to the main topic section (useless because it's already available to the left.)
as a result i never use this column or even look at it any more. It's become wasted space.
is it possible to change a link so each entry connects to the most recent post in a thread.

ok there was momentary improvement in that the links did lead, for a day or 2, to the most current post in a thread. Such a link is useful.
but very soon the system lapsed back to its original format, which is to link only to the first & founding post in a thread. This can sometimes be a year old or older. IMHO such a link is not really useful.
the other 2 links provided by each entry in this column are to a poster's home page (again, not really useful) & to the topic section itself (not useful at all, because the section can better be accessed under the main menu to the left.)
the result is that a choice portion of the home page screen - right under the main box ad - is going to waste. I'd almost rather see ads in there !
Also, if we could cut down on the sheer number of ads it would be nice...once in a while I don't mind, three in one posting is getting a bit much.
I'm not JustAGuy (without spaces).
i've only seen 3 on one page like once or twice. Usually i see one ad per page.
at the end of the day the reality is that ads have to be present. The impression i have is that the moderators - i believe it was frugal trader - worked very hard for days & weeks to optimize the ad presentation. Reducing & smoothing ad flashing features, coaxing everything into harmonious layouts.
the virtual brokers ad, for example. As ads go, this is a great ad ! on other websites, it flashes a lot more. Here on cmf forum, it flashes just the right amount. Not too much. Not too little. Just right. It's the goldilocks version.
