If someone trades US stocks within TSFA account is the gain on stock taxed? I have read it somewhere that dividends are taxed only but not the profit from stock increase. Is this true?
There is no Canadian tax on anything in the TFSA. Not on stock trading nor on dividends received. At the same time, you cannot claim any capital losses either AND the 15% US withholding tax on dividends is lost too.
It might be better to say "There is no Canadian tax on anything in the TFSA". Otherwise, the point about the 15% US withholding tax on dividends conflicts with the "no tax" statement.
Cheers
