Turbo Tax @ Costco for $28

Costco usually sells Turbo Tax Standard a couple of dollars less than retailers. On the weekend I saw it was on sale for $28 and change until March 1 or so.

TD Bank has a "deal" with Turbotax for $14.39 a return for the online version. The Costco sale is better value if you have more than 2 returns, or if you are adverse to storing your tax info in the cloud.

The Staples flyer has TurboTax on sale for $28.34. In also includes Quicken Cash Manager. (According to the add, a Staples exclusive.) Available until Feb 21.

Between Feb. 17 & Mar. 3, Turbotax is $10 (off the list price of $39.99) off at Walmart, Costco, Loblaws, London Drugs, Shoppers, Staples, Best Buy & Future Shop. No coupon required.

Quick question - I've never used retail tax preparation software. If someone (not me) needed to prepare taxes for the years 2006, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11, what is the best retail package they can buy?

Simple returns, although a T2125 must be included.

Do any of these packages allow you to do past-year returns, or must you buy a license for each year?

If anyone has any quick insights, that would be appreciated.

TurboTax (previously QuickTax) only supports the last couple of prior years. Not sure why, when they were called QuickTax, you could download quite a few prior years.

Try StudioTax. Past years going back to 2004 are available here:

Studio Tax is free and supports T2125. You probably already know this, but tax filers have to print out and mail in the tax return for past years. i.e. no NETFILEing.

Yeah, I know. I've only ever used Inuit's "professional" tax filing software, ProFile - and I'm not actually sure how it is different from their retail products.

StudioTax might be the best solution for this couple. Thanks!!
