Yesterday I picked up a CANON PIXMA MP280 (http://www.thesource.ca/estore/product.aspx?language=en-CA&catalog=Online&category=All-In-Ones&product=2513671) for $40

> advertised as: regular $99.99 ... $70 off with computer purchase

> I didn't buy a computer; still got the printer for $30 plus $8 ehf fee plus tax.

> regular ink cartridges (not starter size) are in the box

> usb cable not included

> regular size replacement cartridges: black $21; color $27; which is okay for low volume printing as I do.

> niffty feature is the Easy-WebPrint EX which allows for cropping and editing web pages in Internet Explorer before printing.

Not sure this is much of a deal considering the cost of cartridges and that they don't last very long. I switched to laser 4 years ago and that was the best thing I ever did. I can get toner for like $40 each and the toner lasts much longer than any cartridge does. In fact I think I'm still on the original toner. Cost of the laser printer? About $90 on sale.

Do a search in this forum as we discussed this very thing 1-2 years ago.

If thinking only in dollar terms, for the amount of printing I do, it would be much cheaper to do my printing at the library at $0.25 per page.

However, I think $40 isn't bad for the convenience of printing anytime.

I asked the sales guy about the laser/toner option; I didn't think it was right way for me to go. The quote for a laser printer was multiples of $90.
